Target Audience:
Consultants and SAS Doctors new to the supervision role; and Senior Trainees approaching CCT.
This course is not suitable for experienced supervisors.
This is an essential course for all new supervisors or for senior trainees aiming to become supervisors. It covers all the Academy of Medical Educators’ Trainer standards. It equips you with the knowledge and skills you need to begin your supervision role and covers your CPD in non-clinical skills for 3 years.

Learning Outcomes:
- Identify the qualities of a good supervisor and highlight differences between the role of Clinical and Educational Supervisor
- Explore the NHS bigger pictures and determine why it's relevant to the role
- State the importance of formative and summative assessments
- Outline the content of a quality action plan and evaluate examples
- Explain components of a quality supervisor report
- Review feedback principles and define model commonalities
- Discuss a trainee-led feedback discussion and apply feedback skills
- Recognise the signs and symptoms of underperformance
- Explain the underperformance escalation process and identify local support
- Reflect upon current practice and identify opportunities for development.
- Ensuring safe and effective patient care through training
- Establishing and maintaining the environment for learning
