Cultural Safety Workshop
NHS
is an attractive destination to overseas educated healthcare workforce due to historical
ties and reputation in delivering evidence based high-quality medical care.
Currently we have more non-UK qualified doctors joining the NHS as compared to
the UK-qualified doctors. NHS has workers from more than 200 countries and with
them they bring their own cultural preferences in learning, communicating and
teamworking.
The NHS equality,
diversity, and inclusion improvement plan aims to promote the sense of
belonging for NHS staff to improve their experience. This is especially
important for healthcare staff who have trained abroad and are new to the NHS.
6 high impact actions (HIAs) have been identified to acknowledge that
individuals may have complex and multiple identities, and resulting inequality
or disadvantage interact to create barriers.
This workshop will make NHS leaders self-aware of their own cultural
preferences and will provide the necessary knowledge and skills to work
effectively with NHS colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds and resolve
conflicts in culturally appropriate manner.
